About Us
Greg & Marjorie Stewart are ex-real estate agents who, after some 20 years, decided they needed a change of direction. When the opportunity to become NSW Wholesale Agents for their favourite tea, Taylors of Harrogate and being committed tea lovers for as long as they could remember they jumped at the chance - That’s what you call a REAL change of direction.
That was back in 2005 and after a couple of successful years of wholesaling they decided to open a retail outlet in the busy village of Pyrmont. They chose No. 3 Union Street because of its similarity to tearooms they had visited in England and Scotland.
The shop is situated in Heritage Listed Union Square, between Harris and Pyrmont Streets, amongst some beautiful 19th century sandstone terraces and No. 3 is one of five conservation terrace style shops on the southern side of Union Street.
After 3 months of Council approvals, setting up, painting and stocking up the shelves the shop opened on the 2nd August 2007. They had great support from Phil & Glenys Hayes – Taylors of Harrogate’s Agents and Importers in Australia. Situated in Brisbane, where all the warehousing and national distribution is carried out, Phil & Glenys actively visit each state regularly.
The official opening, on Friday 28th September 2007, was performed by the British Consul-General, Mr. Tim Holmes accompanied by Phil & Glenys and was attended by family, friends, several local business people and well known residents.
Since then business has slowly built up and anyone coming into the teashop or the tearoom is always welcomed with a good morning or a good afternoon and a smile. After much public pressure they opened their beautiful upstairs Victorian Tearooms with all its antique trappings in April 2008 and are constantly kept on the hop while sharing the duties of both the teashop and the tearoom.
Greg and Marjorie are not only very passionate about their teas and coffees but their knowledge of these industries and the histories that accompany them will always be imparted with proficiency and gusto.
Not much more can be said about Greg & Marjorie except that they are a very hard working couple who passionately love their business and are always on hand to give advice and help anyone who is looking for that something special for themselves, a loved one, a special friend or colleague.
“Lifelong friendships are nurtured while sharing your hopes and dreams over a humble cup of tea”
